The 45 exhibition rooms have been used to present Kraków’s history in an almost tangible way, enabling visitors to get a personal experience of the past, and to feel the dramatic emotions shared by the city’s wartime residents. Extensive multimedia solutions (including 30 interactive multimedia kiosks with touchscreens, 70 soundtracks, and 15 video projectors) create an attractive, contemporary, and visitor-oriented museum environment.

The Oskar Schindler’s factory museum was inaugurated in 2010 to document the story of what happened to the city of Krakow during World War II. The exhibition titled ‘Kraków During Nazi Occupation 1939-1945’ covers the daily life that the people of Krakow, both Jews and Poles, led during the war of 1939. It also highlights the adverse conditions under which the Jews lived and the city’s underground resistance. The museum presents facts in form of original official documents, photographs, multimedia presentations and sculptural installations, to give the visitor the real feel of living in a ghetto during wartime.

The museum has been designed by stage artists and a theatre director to give a cinematic effect to the museum. Walk among the city’s inhabitants on the cobbled streets of wartime Kraków, feel overwhelmed by the omnipresent existence of the enemy. Enter narrow passages and overpopulated apartments in the ghetto, and weapons in a resistance house or feel the horror of being imprisoned and interrogated.

There are ‘memory machines’ installed in the museum from which the visitors can produce documents about the events, which can be taken home for future reference.

While the life of Oskar Schindler has been popularized by the Steven Spielberg’s movie Schindler’s List, his office with his desk, map and furniture is the centerpiece of the museum and feature prominently in the museum.

Your tour starts from the reception hall of the museum and ends at the same point. You will be accompanied by an English speaking guide who will guide you through the various exhibitions and also share notes on the life and times of the people during the World War II.
